The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary // La Asunción de Nuestra Señora:

“En la fiesta de la Asunción quiero felicitar en primer lugar a nuestra Madre la Virgen, que tanto nos cuida;  a todas las que tienen el bonito nombre de Asunción y a todas vosotras.” [de mi amigo Fernando Sivit, en este día tan señalado]*

Fernando’s greeting includes, firstly, a felicitation to Mama Mary, “for taking good care of us”.  This is such a blessed and ‘sweet’ feast ―Cor Mariæ Dulcissimum, Iter serva tutum, Most Sweet Heart of Mary: Preserve the way for us―, for we are reminded that, indeed, if we go to Her assiduously, we shall be very well looked after 🙂

Conforme reflejo en la devoción mariana de la fallecida Presidenta Cory Aquino, y en la del pueblo filipino en general, no puedo sino afirmar que “jamás se ha oído decir que ninguno de los que haya acudido a Vos, implorado vuestra asistencia y reclamado vuestro socorro, haya sido abandonado de Vos”, como decimos a nuestra Señora en la oración “Acordaos” [never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided”, Memorare.]

The First Reading for the Mass of today’s Feast goes: “And a great portent appeared in heaven, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars; …behold, a great red dragon, with seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems upon his heads; …she brought forth a male child, one who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron, but her child was caught up to God and to his throne; …and the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God…” [Revelation 12: 1 – 6, 10].

I cite EWTN’s inspiration/message for today’s Feast: “O Holy Mary! My Mother; into thy blessed trust and special custody, and into the bosom of thy mercy, I this day, and every day, and in the hour of my death, commend my soul and body. To thee I commit all my anxieties and sorrows, my life and the end of my life, that by thy most holy intercession, and by thy merits, all my actions may be directed and governed by thy will and that of thy Son.” — St. Aloysius Gonzaga.
