Doctors at the Service of the Nation

RMN, DZXL, 4 November 2012, featuring “Kalusugan Para sa Mamamayang Pilipino”

I was so lucky and delighted to have guested Dr. Mario de Villa (general surgeon) and his daughters Dr. Nissa de Villa (liver transplant specialist) and Dr. Glenda de Villa (Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon) in my radio show “BUHAY, PAMILYA AT BAYAN” today! 🙂

Dr. Mario de Villa, who continues to attend to patients via his clinic at Medical Center Manila and who had been adjudged one of the TEN OUTSTANDING FILIPINO PHYSICIANS in 2009, was one of the prime movers of MEDICAL VOLUNTEERISM in the Philippines through his crucial help in the founding of the University of the Philippines System “UGNAYAN NG PAHINUNGOD”.

His daughter, Dr. Vanessa “Nissa” de Villa, is a liver transplant specialist at the Liver Center at The Medical City.  TMC CLDMT is the leader in the country and in the region in the management of liver disease and in liver transplantation. Nissa and team performed the first successful liver transplant in the country last January 2011 🙂 She spoke about the typical sicknesses of the liver and their usual sources or causes.

Another daughter, Dr. Glenda de Villa, is an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon and President of the Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation Philippines (http://ncfphil.org/). The foundation’s volunteer doctors perform cleft and craniofacial care services for free for indigent cleft patients at the Our Lady of Peace Hospital in Paranaque, Manila, every Monday, 1-5PM.  As of recent count, the team has managed a record 400 (free) treatments per year.  The team, through marketing efforts like the radio guesting, wishes to increase their market penetration rate in order to cure as many cleft and craniofacial defects among our Filipino brothers and sisters. It is estimated that 1 in 500 livebirths in PH results in cleft defect birth.

SALUDO AKO SA INYONG MGA DOKTOR NA WALANG HUMPAY NA NAGLILINGKOD SA SAMBAYANANG PILIPINAS SA PAMAMAGITAN NG PAG-ARUGA SA KALUSUGAN NG ATING MAMAMAYAN!
